The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) invites applications for the Capability Development Internship Programme.
Closing date: 06 October 2023
Location: The position is based in Pretoria.

CSIR is a leading scientific and technology research organisation that researches, develops, localises and diffuses technologies to accelerate socio-economic prosperity in South Africa.
The organisation’s work contributes to industrial development and supports a capable state.
The CSIR has a vacancy for Intern: Capability Development in the Human Capital Management portfolio. The incumbent will assist with the support for the design, development and management of capability development programmes for the organisation.
The intern will also assist to monitor, evaluate and continously improve the effectiveness of the programmes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration
- Assist with the administration of all Career Development programmes in line with Learning and Development programmes (such as researcher development programmes, Women in SET programme;
Capacity Development:
- Provide administrative support in the implementation of capability development policies for the organisation, taking into account current and future needs of the organisation and international best practices;
- Provide administrative support in the implementation of career ladders including the development of ladders for non- SET staff;
- Assist with administration to ensure the effectiveness of career development programmes;
- Assist to identify tools and systems to be used for individual and organisational learning;
- Assist with the administrative support for the development of capabilities for performance improvement initiatives;
- Assist with coordination for implementation of career development programmes to equip employees such as Accelerated researchers development programme, Young Researchers Establishment Fund, Principal researcher development, women in SET programmes;
- Provide adminsitrative support in the implementation of the 70/20/10 developmental approach to enhance learning within various programmes (Skills Development Matrix, Mentorship);
System Support
- Attend to system related enquiries on career ladders and career paths;
- Capture assessments inputs for assessment purposes;
- Provide one on one systems support to career ladder applicants;
- Provide input on recommendations on the Career Ladder Application System for continuous improvements purposes;
- Coordination of the panel members calendar for the assessment period.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- National Diploma / B degree in Industrial Psychology or any related NQF 6 qualification;
- Organisational awareness to demonstrate knowledge of policies, procedures, and disciplines;
- Understanding of linkages between technology, innovation, industry, people, and society.
- Knowledge of governing legislations (PFMA, SDA, Labour Laws, governance, etc.), Skills Development Act and relevant legislation and SETAs;
- Knowledge of instructional design theory;
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency and familiarity with web delivery tools;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Exceptional organisational skills, including the ability to handle multiple assignments, prioritise work and meet deadlines;
- High level of motivation, energy, and proactivity;
- Ability to work under pressure;
- Attention to details;
- Willingness to learn new things;
- Analytical skills.
