Sasol Mining is recruiting and invites applications from interested candidates for the vacant posts of Survey Manager x2 posts.

Purpose of Job / Role:

Ensuring management and coordination of Planning and Survey function, auditing of Mine surveys and planning as well as mine draughting in line with the Mine’s Works Plan / Prospecting.

Manage all underground survey services on an operational level in the Mine to ensure that the Mine complies with the regulations as stipulated under Chapter 17 of the Mines Health and Safety Act.

Key Accountabilities

  • MHSA Reg. 17 statutory compliance:
  • The surface and underground surveying are within prescribed statutory limits
  • All statutory mine plans comply to prescribed statutory limits

  • Undermining and Erection of surface structures permissions obtained timeously from DMR, Roads department, Water Affairs and Eskom

  • Pro-actively provide warnings regarding dangerous holing, accumulations of water and gases, old workings and geological disturbances
  • Surface monitoring

  • Monitoring and record keeping of surface structures as per MHSA Reg.17(Spoils, Dams, Highwalls, Surface subsidence, Rivers etc.)
  • Auditing of survey functionEnsuring compliance to MHSA Reg.17 by survey sub-ordinates and draughtperson

  • Managing draughting function
  • Effective draughting function supporting safe production
  • Short term planning
    • Mining layouts comply to mine layout and stability standard
    • Mining layouts aligned to long term planning design
    • Effective communication with ventilation, rock engineering, geology, mining and planning

  • Managing interested and effected parties
    • Managing farmers related issues via SMRD
    • Report all higher extraction mining performed per annum to SMRD
    • Rehabilitate any surface area damaged by mining activities

  • Rock Engineering
    • Proactive mining risk assessments prior to mining activity
    • Ensure compliance to rock engineering standards by calculation of safety factors and width/height ratios thus ensure compliance to safe mining practice
    • Initiate stooping risk assessments prior to stooping activities

  • Personnel and Administration activities
    • Succession planning.
    • Performance management.
    • Training and development.
    • Leave management.
  • Realistic mine closure costing


JOB REQUIREMENTS
Note:

In addition to a pre-employment medical examination, some positions may require a physical fitness assessment, as part of the normal pre-employment selection criteria.

Qualifications:

  • Mine Surveyors certificate of competency
  • B-Tech Mineral Resource Management or National Higher Diploma Mine survey

Experience:

  • 8 yrs practical experience
