SABC: Archivist Internship Programme 2023
SABC News and Current Affairs is recruiting and invites applications for the Archivist Internship Programme 2023.
Location: Auckland Park, Gauteng
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Collecting, transferring, short listing (indexing), retrieval and preservation of SABC TV News and Actuality archive content in order to make TV News Archive content available through processing requests from News clients.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure all relevant material is collected from line record according to daily diary.
- Collected material must be checked and documented against the updated diary.
- Follow up with Ingest area for material not received or recorded or material with quality issues or incorrectly recorded.
- Perform transferring of material and monitor quality.
- Ensure all tapes are accurately labelled and barcoded.
- Ensure all collected material is short-listed accurately i.e live broadcasting, raw footage and current affairs material.
- Ensure that data integrity of short-listed material, is quality checked and proper research is conducted.
- Ensure adherence to SABC TV News Archives SOP’s and Archiving standards, SABC Archive Policy, SLA’s, South African Broadcasting Act, South African National Archival Act, Copyright Act and industry best practices.
- Assign appropriate key words when archiving for effective retrieval.
- Identify and advice on the gaps found in the archived collection .
- Ensure that old and usable material is updated.
- Work with client requests such as creating project files in a database, searching for content, handling and shipping of material(s) to clients.
- Communicate with internal and external Stakeholders and maintain an effective, professional interaction with all.
- Communicate with clients regarding availability of footage requested, and copy-right restrictions regarding the material.
- Ensure that journalists complete the request form(s).
- Complete request forms on behalf of the clients.
- Refer requests from external clients and internal clients outside News and Sport, to the News Agency Department.
- Engage with the journalist(s) regarding the request and then source relevant material.
- Ensure that complex and long requests are completed.
- Follow up on complaints or concerns and suggestions raised by clients.
- Seek advice on copyright related matters from senior archivists , team leader , manager
- Ensure requested tapes are drawn and issued out to the clients timeously.
- Ensure that all signed out tapes must be returned by the end of business daily.
- Ensure that shelve reading and tapes are filed accordingly.
- Participate in adhoc special projects, i.e compilation of biographies etc.
- Compile and complete daily handover report.
REQUIREMENTS:
- National Diploma (NQF6) in Information Management/Library science or relevant equivalent qualification.
- Computer literacy –Microsoft Office; Word and Excel; Microsoft Outlook.
