The Nelson Mandela Foundation is a non-profit organisation focused on memory, dialogue, and legacy work.

We are the custodian of Nelson Mandela’s life and times; we are a committed facilitator of his living legacy; and we are mandated to promote his lifelong vision of freedom and equality for all.

The Foundation is looking for interns for a period of 18 months, starting 1 April 2023.

Responsibilities:

Assist the Human Resources Manager with HR Administration across the HR value chain.

Coordinate all recruitment administration activities by; matching applicants’ credentials to the advertised job profile and shortlisting, liaising with agencies to obtain all required checks and references, setting up interviews, receiving interviewees and interviewers, providing HR service in interviews, preparing interview reports for internally driven recruitment

Coordinate the institutional and departmental Induction schedule for new employees

Assist with monitoring monthly demographic, leave, age, terminations analysis and report trends

Arrange meetings with medical aid and pension / provident fund brokers as required, advise the brokers of new employees and terminations

Assist with coordination of completion of performance agreements aligned with organizational goals

Assist with collating all performance ratings attained and submit to the HR Manager for moderation and calibration purposes

Coordinator all Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and submit to the HR Manager to ensure reasonableness of the plan

Employee Wellness

Assist with organising the annual Employee Wellness Day events in conjunction with Communications department.

Provide input into internal communications plan and approach for the year · Conduct yearly culture/ employee satisfaction surveys ·

In order to be eligible for the internship, applicants must:

  • Hold a qualification in Human Resources.
  • Be recently graduated with little or full-time work experience.

  • Have a demonstrable interest in human rights advocacy and constitutional issues and an interest in building a career in civil society in South Africa.

  • Be able to plan, prioritise work, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Be systematic and thorough in their approach to work, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word & Excel, Facebook, website design, Instagram, Twitter, Google apps).

  • Show a demonstrated ability to multi-task and ability to prioritise across multiple projects and social media platforms.

  • Ability to write for public consumption. 
  • Must be willing and able to work in teams and be a self-starter.
