Junior Research Fellow opportunity at University of Cape Town
University of Cape Town (UCT) invite applications for the JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW position under the mentorship of Prof Dan Stein in the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health.

This is a full-time, 3-year contract position. The annual remuneration package, including benefits, is between R544 062 and R658 000 (research funding).
This position is funded by the URC.
We are searching for a candidate with significant expertise, including PhD level training, in evidence-based mental health care, with a strong track record of publication and mentorship in this area.
Requirements include:
- A PhD in Psychiatry or a related field
- Demonstrable evidence of academic writing ability, including a track record of research publications in psychiatry or a related field
- 2 years’ lecturing experience
- Experience with supervision of postgraduate students
- Expertise in undertaking systematic reviews of the mental health evidence
- Track record of publication and mentoring in this area
Responsibilities include:
- Lead research projects on systematic reviews of the mental health evidence under mentorship of two senior academics
- Supervise or co-supervise postgraduate students
- Participate in collaborative research projects with research institutes and/or universities external to UCT
- Participate in the publication of at least 6 papers in academic journals within the 36-month grant period
- Conduct 1 conference presentation per year, with at least 1 international conference presentation during the tenure
- Apply for independent research funding
- Appropriate administrative duties
