American Express is inviting South Africans to participate in the Amex ZA Graphic Arts Challenge.
The recently launched arts initiative celebrates the vibrancy of Africa and the welcoming spirit that South Africans are known for.
The challenge: create a graphic pattern that creatively responds to the theme “The vibrant African marketplace – everyone’s welcome”.
American Express will choose up to five winning works, which will then appear on posters and signage at merchants who accept American Express cards.
Each winner will receive R100 000 and have their work publicly exhibited at the Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
Entry Requirements
To enter, you must be a citizen or a permanent resident of South Africa, and turn 18 on or before 31 January 2023.
Your work must be your own, an original, and not previously used for another client or brand.
Your entry should be a vector file or high-resolution JPEG or PNG and must make use of the American Express colour palette.
Winning Conditions
- Up to five winners will be chosen. Each winner will receive R100 000 and will be featured in a public exhibition in Johannesburg on a date to be confirmed in the year 2023.
- Up to two runners-up will also be chosen at the Promoter’s discretion. Each runner-up will receive R20 000 and will be featured in a public exhibition in Johannesburg on a date to be confirmed in the year 2023.
- Participants may enter the Promotional Competition only once, yet the single entry may contain various different design iterations and applications. Subsequent entries may not be honoured or accepted, to the discretion of the Promoter and/or Selection Committee.
- Participants to whom prizes will be awarded will be selected through a Selection Committee of the Promoter. Entries will be judged on originality, composition, response to selected theme and overall impact. The decision of the judges will be final.
- The public profile of entrants may be considered in the decision to award a prize, in order to achieve maximum promotional impact, and to ensure diversity and inclusivity, and to mitigate reputational risk.
- Winners will be contacted via email and/or telephonically, as per the contact details to be included in any entry by a Participant.
- Should the Promoter be unable to get in touch with the winner within five working days, or to complete the verification process after drawing his/her entry for any reason whatsoever, the Promoter reserves the right to disqualify such winner, and in such instance, proceed with the draw of a replacement winner.
