The Thungela professional in training programme is designed to equip you with the necessary practical and theoretical training to set yourself up for success and potentially take up a substantive role within the company once you have successfully completed the outcomes of the Safety programme.

Thungela Resources [Thungela means “to ignite” in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production.
It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production.
Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.
Job Description
You will be required to complete the development programme within the required timeframe of 24 months.
You are required to drive your developmental progress according to the programme, as well as contribute to business improvement initiatives by conceptualising and/or piloting improvement projects in your area of specialisation or the organisation as a whole.
More of your responsibilities will include:
- Complete and exceed the expectations and requirements of your prescribed programme
- Contribute positively towards your discipline at your operation by suggesting and/or introducing process improvements that meaningfully impact outcomes or objectives specific to your area of influence
- Apply your theoretical knowledge to develop practical solutions to business problems. Integrating key learnings and offer input, advise and value
- Pro-actively participate in relevant forums and initiatives to maximise developmental benefit
- Identifying, scoping and researching a project at the beginning of your second year to present to an audience of senior leaders
- Attend all formal courses and seminars as prescribed in the development programme and actively participate in all opportunities for development
- Acting in the capacity of other roles per discipline as and when required through delivering on role outcomes as expected in an acting capacity
- Participating in and keeping abreast of operational and industry initiatives and relevant to the discipline or business as well as in Safety, Health and Environmental initiatives on the operation and role model safe behaviour.
Qualifications
- Bachelors’ Degree or Diploma in Safety Management or related discipline (NQF Level 7)
Additional Information
- Driver’s license required
- Ability to obtain a valid certificate of fitness
- Proven completion of a project relevant to field of study
- Prior temporary working experience in field of study will be an advantage
